How is scarf osteotomy used to treat hallux valgus?
Scarf osteotomy is for moderate to severe hallux valgus deformities. The metatarsal bone of the first foot ray is visible on the inside of the foot following a skin incision. During the osteotomy it is cut in a Z-pattern (repositioning of the bone). It is then secured in a new direction using small screws.
