What is Amicar used for?
This medication is used to help control bleeding due to a condition where your blood does not clot the way it normally should (fibrinolysis). This may cause serious bleeding after certain surgeries or in certain conditions (such as bleeding disorders, liver disease, cancer).
Is Amicar a blood thinner?
Aminocaproic acid works by affecting the blood clotting system, thereby slowing/stopping bleeding after surgery, in some bleeding conditions, or in severe liver disease.
What are the side effects of Amicar?
Aminocaproic acid may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

How long does it take for Amicar to work?
The fibrinolysis-inhibitory effects of AMICAR appear to be exerted principally via inhibition of plasminogen activators and to a lesser degree through antiplasmin activity. In adults, oral absorption appears to be a zero-order process with an absorption rate of 5.2 g/hr. The mean lag time in absorption is 10 minutes.
