Why do we segregate cables?
In short, the gist of segregation, as far as BS5839 is concerned, goes far beyond EMC. It is a requirement to preserve the integrity of life safety systems from mechanical damage from other cables during installation, or from faults on other circuits during service.
How deep should a low voltage cable be buried?
6″
Most of the time low voltage wire is installed beneath mulch in landscape areas. If installing wire underground, the minimum depth, according to the national electric code is 6″. It is always a good idea to run cable through conduit when installing it under sidewalks, driveways or other hardscapes.
How often does low voltage cable need to be supported?
One of the requirements for permanent wiring, and thus for temporary wiring, was the need for adequate support. Article 336-18 stated that cable must be secured in place at intervals not exceeding 4.5 feet (1.37 m) and within 12 inches (305 mm) from every cabinet, box, or fitting.

Should you bury low voltage wire?
Always leave a little extra landscape lighting wire as you hook up the lights. This will give you the freedom to move a light after you’ve hooked it up for testing or after you’ve installed it. Burying the wires should be your last step.
When do you need to segregated cable and circuit?
Another aspect is that where electric circuit outlets from both Voltage Bands share a common box or switchplate, the relevant connections must be segregated by a partition, and if the partition is metal, it must be earthed.
Can a MICC cable be segregated with twin cable?
The segregation of MICC cables with a plastic sheath is not as critical as for the segregation of ordinary twin and earth cable. For hazardous areas, including combustible dusts, mineral insulated cable (with suitable approved fittings) is permitted in certain locations, and may also be installed in cable trays in certain instances.
How are band 1 and 2 ELV circuits segregated?
With respect to the separation and segregation of circuits, I am familiar with the min. separation distances between band 1 & 2 circuits but does any further consideration need to be made to the separation of ELV cables?
How is segregation of band 1 and 2 achieved?
Chances are you will have wired from the transformer to the fan in normal T&E cable therefore you will have achieved ‘segregation of band 1 & band 2 circuits’ as the insulation used is rated to the highest voltage present. Tick.
