What is a tap isolation valve?
Isolating valves, also known as an isolation valve, are used to regulate the flow of water from the mains to a water service pipe. They can be used to repair a dripping tap where there is no need to turn off the mains water if one of these valves is installed.
How does an isolation valve work?
An isolation valve is a valve in a fluid handling system that stops the flow of process media to a given location, usually for maintenance or safety purposes. They can also be used to provide flow logic (selecting one flow path versus another), and to connect external equipment to a system.
How do you use a tap isolation valve?
“To turn it off you’ll need a flat head screwdriver, the slot on the isolation valve should be following the pipe work, that’s when the water is on, if you give it a quarter of a turn in either direction the slot should be going across the pipe work, that’s how you know the isolation valve is in the off position.”

Do isolation valves reduce flow?
If you are looking to fit isolation valves to outlets (not central heating), then: 1. If the outlet is on a high pressure (1 bar or greater) pressure, then you can probably get away with a normal isolation valve. The exception is for a bath filler or high volume shower, where a full bore valve would not reduce flow.
