What is Faber test hip?
The FABER test is used to identify the presence of hip pathology by attempting to reproduce pain in the hip, lumbar spine or sacroiliac region. The test is a passive screening tool for musculoskeletal pathologies, such as hip, lumbar spine, or sacroiliac joint dysfunction, or an iliopsoas spasm.
What does positive Faber test indicate?
The examiner applies a posteriorly directed force against the medial knee of the bent leg towards the table top. A positive test occurs when groin pain or buttock pain is produced. Due to forces going through the hip joint as well, the patient may experience pain if pathology is located in the hip as well.
How is the Faber test performed?
The flexion abduction external rotation (FABER) test is used to evaluate for pathology of the sacroiliac joint. The patient lies supine on the examination table and is asked to place one foot on the opposite knee (placing the hip in flexion abduction external rotation).
What is a positive Patrick test?
If the test reproduces posterior pelvic pain contralaterally, it is considered a positive test indicating that the sacroiliac joint is involved. A positive test that reproduces groin pain may indicate that there is a dysfunction within the hip joint, but does not specify the particular pathology.
Where is pain felt with a hip labral tear?
Symptoms of a labral tear include deep pain in the groin or at the front of the hip. People often describe the location of the pain in a “C”-shaped region over the hip joint. You may also experience a sensation of locking or catching in the hip along with decreased range of motion.
