How hard is the Certified Cicerone exam?
The CC exam is a seriously difficult in-person exam with written and tasting portions. Its passage rate is less than 40%, about 1 in 3. That’s worse than the NY or CA State Bar Exams. Certified Cicerones are true beer experts.
How long is the Cicerone test?
You will have a maximum of 45 minutes to complete the tasting exam. The tasting exam consists of three components: First, you will receive a control beer and four samples. We will provide a list of beer flavor compounds from the Certified Cicerone syllabus.
What is on the Cicerone test?
Certified Cicerone is the second level of certification. Those who achieve this certification have a solid and well-rounded knowledge of beer and beer service as well as basic competence in assessing beer quality and identity by taste. The four-hour exam includes written, tasting, and demonstration portions.
How do you get Cicerone?
To pass, and earn the title of Certified Cicerone, candidates need to score at least an 80% on the overall test, and at least a 70% on the tasting exam, no matter what the overall score is. Both written and tasting exams can be retaken separately.
