What is the Reach Out and Read Program?
Reach Out and Read is a national pediatric early literacy program that prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.
How does reach out and read work?
The program model focuses on children from 6 months to 5 years of age, and at each health supervision visit during that period, each child receives a new book to take home and keep. The book is chosen carefully to be developmentally appropriate.
How much does Reach Out and Read cost?
As you will see in the application, we use an average cost of $2.75 per book for calculation purposes. The actual cost of books will vary depending on title, language, and vendor.
Why Reach Out and Read?
Reach Out and Read has demonstrated that reading aloud with infants and toddlers connects to the most significant parts of a child’s development. Shared reading provides children with a fertile learning environment—encouraging curiosity and imagination. It also promotes resilience and mitigates toxic stress.
Is reach out effective?
ReachOut.com is designed to intervene early in the development of mental health disorders among young people. Available evidence also demonstrates that e-mental health services are effective for these groups of people and those experiencing psychological distress.
What is the difference between read and read?
As previously mentioned, the past tense of read is read. These words are spelled the same but pronounced differently. Read in the present tense has a long “e” sound, and read in the past tense has a short “e” sound. The only way to know which word is meant when it is written is by the context of the sentence.
