What is the Reach Out and Read Program?

Reach Out and Read is a national pediatric early literacy program that prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.

How does reach out and read work?

The program model focuses on children from 6 months to 5 years of age, and at each health supervision visit during that period, each child receives a new book to take home and keep. The book is chosen carefully to be developmentally appropriate.
