How do I administer Optison?
Recommended Dosage
- The recommended dose of Optison is 0.5 mL injected into a peripheral vein.
- If the contrast enhancement is inadequate after the dose of 0.5 mL, additional doses in increments of 0.5 mL may be repeated for further contrast enhancement as needed.
What is DEFINITY used for?
DEFINITY® is an injectable cardiovascular ultrasound enhancement agent comprised of lipid-coated echogenic microbubbles filled with octafluoropropane gas. Administration of DEFINITY® enhances clinicians’ view of the left ventricle of the heart during an echocardiogram to aid with diagnosis.
What type of drug is perflutren?
Perflutren is an ultrasound contrast agent that is used to improve the quality of an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart). Perflutren works by changing the way ultrasound waves travel within your heart. This helps the ultrasound portray a sharper image of your heart.
How is DEFINITY administered?
DEFINITY® may be injected by either an intravenous (IV) bolus or infusion. The maximum dose is either two bolus doses or one single intravenous infusion. The safety of bolus and infusion dosing in combination or in sequence, has not been studied.
How do you push Definity?
Procedure
- Vent vial with a needle by placing needle tip in the activated DEFINITY® vial.
- Attach an 18 or 20 gauge unfiltered needle to the 3 mL or tuberculin syringe; place needle in the vial.
- Invert vial and slowly withdraw 10 µL/kg activated DEFINITY® from the middle of the liquid. Do not inject air into the vial.
How do you use Lumason?
Administer Lumason as an intravesical bolus injection through the urinary catheter; Continue filling the bladder with 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP until the patient has the urge to micturate or at the first sign of back pressure to the infusion.
