Alternate timelines. In the alternate timeline seen in the episode “Twilight”, Tucker becomes captain of Enterprise following the incapacitation of Jonathan Archer and T’Pol’s resignation from Starfleet. He is killed when Enterprise’s bridge is destroyed shortly before Archer resets the timeline.
