Kiesel, had died. In 2015, Carvin Corporation split off the guitar business to a new company, Kiesel Guitars, which continues to build electric and acoustic guitars, MIDI synth guitars, bass guitars and other instruments under the Carvin Guitars brand as well as new, Kiesel branded instruments.
Why did Carvin change to Kiesel?
In 1988, Carvin guitars and basses switched from being set-neck models to (mostly) neck-through design. In 1995, Carvin moved south to San Diego, which was the same year Jeff Kiesel joined the company. On February 1st 2015, the name was changed back to Kiesel Guitars to honor our founder Lowell Kiesel.
