Are Deore cranks good?
Not had any issues with this crankset, its been strong and reliable. SLX and XT are lighter, shift marginally better, but are no stiffer and cost significantly more, for the majority of users Deore is an excellent value good quality crankset with stylish looks and a nice finish.

I spayed it with WD40 to clean it, then put a lighter lube on it. It works great now. Just remove the cover on the short stalk and you should see the inner workings of the shifter. The pawl is probably hidden by the short stalk, but you should be able to look under it to see what I mean.
