Are music CDs being phased out?
Over the years, CD sections in stores have been shrinking as less and less people buy CDs. With the rise of smart phones that can hold thousands of songs, CDs have gone the way of audio cassettes and 8-tracks and have become obsolete.
What is a CD in music?
Compact disc (CD), a molded plastic disc containing digital data that is scanned by a laser beam for the reproduction of recorded sound and other information. Since its commercial introduction in 1982, the audio CD has almost completely replaced the phonograph disc (or record) for high-fidelity recorded music.
How does a music CD work?
CDs are made from an original “master” disc. The master is “burned” with a laser beam that etches bumps (called pits) into its surface. Thus, the laser can store all the information sampled from the original track of music by burning some areas (to represent zeros) and leaving other areas unburned (to represent ones).

The portable CD player might be a thing of the past, but, believe it or not, big-time audio companies are still releasing CD players for the home. Of course, it almost goes without saying that you can buy CDs (and vinyl, too) at Amazon; Barnes & Noble also still sells CDs and records on its site and in stores, as does entertainment chain FYE .
How do you play music disk?
Playing a CD in Windows Press the Eject button on your disc drive. Place the disc in the tray label-side up. Close the tray by pushing it or pressing Eject again. Insert a blank CD-R for music into your CD burner . Right-click on the play list name and select the “Burn Playlist to Disc” option. Click “Burn” to begin copying the songs onto the blank CD. Wait for iTunes to finish burning the songs onto the CD before you remove the disc.
